Studio 17 Dance Company
Competitive Program
Our 2024/2025 Competitive Program is now open for registration!
Studio 17 Dance Company's Competitive Program provides a superior dance education, with exceptional technical training and a positive and professional environment. The mission of our Competitive Program is to create highly skilled pre-professional dancers without compromising their health, happiness, and love for dance. To do this, we focus on teaching the foundational technique in all genres, utilize injury prevention methods, and prioritize open communication and support for mental health.
Each dancer is valued, and our teachers are committed to supporting them in reaching their potential. Our small class sizes provide opportunities for frequent individual attention and unmatched ability for dancers to progress and advance their training.
As part of the Competition Team, our students receive the most innovative teaching methods, quality training, and exceptional choreography from experts in their field. All our instructors specialize in the genres they teach, and regularly continue their professional development to provide our students with the highest quality education.
The Competitive Program runs September-June and is available to students aged 5 or older. Each level has required classes that every dancer must participate in, as well as additional optional classes. Students in the competitive program will have the opportunity to participate in competitions, exams, auditions, community performances and recitals.

Competitive Program Classes
Ballet
Our Ballet Program, which follows the Royal Academy of Dance syllabus, is designed to provide the development of strong technique, artistry, quality of movement, and a passion for excellence. The focus of our teaching methods is to inspire a great amount of discipline, dedication, and respect for ballet.
Stretch & Conditioning
Our Stretch & Conditioning Program combines training methods from a variety of syllabi, including Alixa Flexibility and Muv Method, which educate dancers on body awareness and alignment, and understanding the need to control flexibility through strength.
Hip Hop
Jazz
Our Jazz Program incorporates both the ADAPT and Method jazz syllabi, which work to cultivate dancers that can demonstrate precision and consistency and strive to progress their stylistic abilities. Dancers will develop technical growth through consistent training and confidence in their skills through repetition.
Tap
Our tap classes also incorporate the ADAPT syllabus, as well rhythmic tap technique. Tap dance focuses on intricate footwork, while promoting musicality, rhythm, and coordination.
Acro
Our Acro Program utilizes the world’s leading acro syllabus, Acrobatic Arts, which aims to create well-balanced acrobats, while promoting growth in a safe, progressive, and age-appropriate manner. The classes support our dancers as they master their strength, flexibility, balance, limbering, and tumbling skills.
Contemporary/Lyrical
In our Contemporary/Lyrical classes students will learn to convey stories and emotion while using contraction and release, abstract movement, and floor work.
Musical Theatre
Private Lessons
Hip Hop is an urban street dance style that incorporates many techniques such as breaking, locking, popping, house, funk, and commercial dance, which work to develop each dancer’s groove and personal style.
Musical theatre explores dance, singing, and acting. Students will learn to portray characters and work on vocal techniques.
Private lessons are available upon request to assist student's progress with exam work, choreography, and personalized technique programs.
